Red and near-infrared light therapy isn't just about facial skin. Every area exposed to the light contains cells that use energy, so full-body coverage allows you to expose far more tissue than simply treating your face or one sore spot.A full-body session can cover your face, décolletage, shoulders, back, arms, glutes, thighs, knees, shins and feet simultaneously, supporting skin goals alongside muscles, joints, recovery and cellular energy throughout the areas exposed.Red and near-infrared light interacts with cells and their mitochondria, influencing ATP production and cellular signalling. Researchers are also investigating how photobiomodulation may produce broader systemic effects beyond the exact area illuminated. That’s one of the reasons Emily’s favourite is the Standing Front + Back session: extensive head-to-toe exposure in one short session.
The Laydown is a relaxing session under four BioMax PRO Ultra panels, treating one side of the body at a time. The Standing Front + Back uses eight panels simultaneously, giving you extensive front-and-back coverage in one session.Sessions run from 7–14 minutes, depending on your treatment focus and protocol.
No. Red and near-infrared light therapy is not a tanning bed and does not use UV light, so it won’t give you a tan.The BioMax PRO Ultra panels can create some gentle warmth during your session, but the aim is light exposure, not heating your body like a sauna. Most people find the warmth comfortable and relaxing
Yes! Babies are welcome to stay in their prams during your appointment, provided they are safely positioned away from the equipment and facing away from the lights.Older children are also welcome to sit comfortably on the couch or a chair and watch TV while you enjoy your session. For safety, children must remain supervised, stay away from the panels and equipment, and cannot be left unattended elsewhere on the property. Please let us know before your appointment if you'll be bringing your little one. Revive treatments are for adults only.
For best results, consistency is key. Depending on your goals and protocol, red light therapy may be used 2–5 times per week, ideally consistently over 4–6 weeks rather than squeezing a few sessions into one week and stopping.Think of it like the gym: you wouldn’t expect to get fit from one week of workouts and then never go back. Red light therapy is similar. Regular, consistent sessions give your cells repeated exposure to the light over time. After your initial 4–6 weeks, you can adjust your routine depending on your goals and how your body responds.
Everyone is different, and results depend on what you're using red light therapy for. Some people notice how they feel after sessions relatively quickly, while visible changes take consistency. For skin and collagen, studies have reported improvements over approximately 4–8+ weeks of regular use. Hair is a much slower process, with clinical hair-growth studies commonly assessing changes at around 16 weeks.Take a photo before you start! 📸 Subtle changes in skin and hair can be much easier to notice when you compare progress photos over time.
No. Red light therapy doesn’t have to be a forever commitment. Many people begin with a consistent block of sessions for a particular goal and then reassess. If you’re using it for recovery or a specific niggle, you might use it consistently for several weeks and then reduce your sessions or take a break once you’re feeling good. For skin, collagen or hair goals, you may choose to continue regular sessions for longer, as these changes naturally take more time.Think of red light therapy as a tool you can use according to your goals, rather than something you’re locked into forever.
For the best light exposure, more skin exposed is better. Your birthday suit is best! 😄 But you can undress to whatever level you’re comfortable with. Underwear, shorts or swimwear are completely fine.Revive is a private studio, so once you're set up for your session, you'll have privacy to relax and let the light reach the areas you want to treat.
Not much! 😊 Come in comfortable clothes and, where possible, with clean skin free from heavy makeup, sunscreen, fake tan, moisturiser or body oils on the areas you want to treat. You’re welcome to bring water, headphones, a book or your phone, but your session is only 7–14 minutes, so you can also simply arrive, switch off and enjoy the light. 🔴✨
PlatinumLED advises that eye protection is not required for normal BIOMAX use, although the lights are extremely bright and some people prefer goggles for comfort. You can close your eyes during the session, and protective eyewear is available if you’d prefer to use it. Never stare directly into the LEDs.
The BioMax PRO Ultra panels are extremely bright. If you have light-sensitive eyes, migraines triggered by bright light, an eye condition, or you’re taking medication that causes photosensitivity, please tell us before your session.Protective eyewear is available and we can make your session more comfortable. If you have a diagnosed eye condition or significant photosensitivity, check with your healthcare professional before using red light therapy. And yes, when we get to your waiver/consent form, we'll make sure photosensitivity, relevant medications and eye conditions are specifically covered there too.
For the best light exposure, clean, bare skin is ideal. Where possible, arrive without heavy makeup, sunscreen, moisturiser, fake tan or body oils on the areas you want to treat. If you're coming straight from work, the gym or your day, don't stress. We can help you work around it. The main goal is simply to have as much clean, uncovered skin exposed to the light as comfortably possible.
It depends on your session and treatment focus. For full-body sessions, we follow PlatinumLED’s recommended positioning and protocols for the BioMax PRO Ultra. For facial or more superficial skin-focused treatments, PlatinumLED generally recommends approximately 41–61 cm (16–24 inches) from the panels. We’ll help position you correctly when you arrive, so you don’t need to work this out yourself.
Our standing red light panels reach 188cm from the floor to the top of the lights. If you're taller than this, you're still welcome to use them, although some areas may fall outside the direct light coverage. Our Laydown massage bed is 190cm long, so most clients can comfortably enjoy a session lying down.
Yes. Red light therapy can fit well before or after training. Some people like a session before exercise as part of their warm-up and performance routine, while others prefer afterwards to support recovery and tired or sore muscles. If you train regularly, choose whichever timing fits your routine best. Consistency matters more than whether you come before or after your workout.
Yes. Normal sun exposure doesn’t automatically mean you need to skip your red light session. So if you’ve been at the beach, playing golf or simply outside during the day, you can generally still have your session. However, if your skin is sunburnt, very red, hot, tender or irritated, wait until it has settled before using the lights. We cover sunburn separately below.
If your skin is sunburnt, hot, tender, blistered or significantly irritated, it’s best to wait until the acute sunburn has settled before having a session.Once your skin feels comfortable again, you can return to your normal red light routine. When in doubt, give your skin a little time to recover first.
Generally, yes, but it depends on what your facial involved. For a gentle facial, red light therapy can usually fit easily into your skincare routine. If you’ve had a more intensive treatment such as a chemical peel, microneedling, laser, skin needling or another procedure that leaves the skin sensitive or inflamed, follow your treating professional’s aftercare instructions and wait until they’ve cleared you for light-based treatments. If you're unsure, just let us know what treatment you've had before your session.
Always follow the aftercare and waiting period recommended by your injector or medical provider first.Once you’ve been cleared to resume normal treatments, PlatinumLED advises that there is generally no special BIOMAX setting required simply because you’ve had injectables. Skin Repair mode can be used when your focus is skin.If you still have significant swelling, bruising, inflammation or unusual sensitivity, wait and check with your treating provider before your Revive session.
Red light therapy may be used as part of recovery in some situations, but your surgeon or treating medical professional must clear you first. The appropriate timing will depend on the procedure, the area treated and how you’re healing. If you have a fresh incision, significant swelling, bleeding, infection or any post-operative complication, wait and follow your medical team’s instructions.Once you’ve been cleared, let us know about your recent procedure before your session so we can choose the most appropriate setup and protocol.
Red and near-infrared light therapy is commonly used to support muscle recovery, joint health and the body’s natural repair processes, making it popular with active people and those managing everyday aches and soreness. It isn’t a substitute for medical treatment or rehabilitation, but it can be a useful addition to your recovery routine.
Having breast implants or many other common implants does not automatically exclude you from red light therapy. Red and near-infrared light are non-ionising and do not heat implants in the way some heat-based treatments can. However, if your implant is recent, you’ve recently had surgery, or you have an implanted medical/electronic device, please check with your surgeon or healthcare provider first and let us know before your session.
Yes. Please let us know before your session if you have a medical condition, take photosensitising medication, have a history of light sensitivity, or have any concerns about whether red light therapy is suitable for you. Some medications and conditions can increase sensitivity to light. If you're unsure, check with your doctor or pharmacist before your first session.
If you’re pregnant, we recommend speaking with your doctor or maternity care provider and getting their approval before having red light therapy, as research specifically during pregnancy is limited. If you’re breastfeeding, please let us know when booking. If you have any medical concerns or are unsure whether treatment is appropriate for you, check with your healthcare provider first.
Yes. Having your period doesn’t generally prevent you from having a red light therapy session. Some people particularly enjoy the gentle warmth and relaxing downtime during this time. If you’re feeling unwell, unusually light-headed or experiencing severe pain or heavy bleeding, listen to your body and reschedule if needed.Otherwise, your period doesn’t need to interrupt your regular Revive routine.
There is emerging research into photobiomodulation and reproductive health, but red light therapy should not be considered a fertility treatment or a replacement for medical fertility care.In men, human laboratory studies have found that certain red and near-infrared wavelengths can affect sperm mitochondrial energy and motility, although the research has largely involved sperm samples treated directly in the laboratory rather than men simply standing in front of a whole-body panel.Interestingly, research is emerging in women too. Small human studies have investigated red/NIR photobiomodulation in women with fertility difficulties and diminished ovarian reserve, including potential effects on mitochondrial function and reproductive outcomes. However, this research is still early and larger clinical trials are needed.(If you’re actively trying to conceive or undergoing fertility treatment, discuss red light therapy with your fertility specialist before incorporating it into your routine.)
